Athena at Falmouth

Photographs  John H. Luxton & Tony Atkinson 2012

These photographs show MV ATHENA arriving at and departing from Falmouth on June 05/06, 2012 whilst operating under charter to Shearings Holidays.

ATHENA had departed from Portsmouth on June 04 on a cruise to the Isles of Scilly, Falmouth and Honfleur. However, after leaving Portsmouth passengers were advised that the itinerary had been rearranged due to swell conditions at the Scillies which would make tendering difficult. The ship set off for Falmouth with the stated intention of going to the Isles of Scilly on Wednesday June 06.

However, when everyone had returned to the ship on Wednesday they were advised that conditions at the Scillies remained unsuitable for tendering and that the ship would remain in Falmouth until Thursday evening omitting the Isles of Scilly call. It would appear though that the plan to go to the Scillies may well have been aborted much earlier as your web master has seen a Falmouth port list compiled early on Tuesday June 05 which shows ATHENA arriving at Falmouth 06:30 on June 05 and departing on June 06 at 18:00? thus the decision to omit Scilly must have been taken before her arrival at Falmouth!

 June 5, 2012
Arrival at Portsmouth was on a dismal wet morning with heavy rain making it difficult to keep the camera dry. ATHENA was assisted onto the County Wharf berth by the A&P tug ST.PIRAN and escorted by the Falmouth Harbour Masters Launch
The weather improved on Tuesday afternoon and these photographs show the ATHENA viewed from a variety of locations.
 June 06, 2012

ATHENA departed at 18:00 again assisted by tug ST. PIRAN with the pilot being removed by Pilot Vessel L.K. MITCHELL
