Crane Lowers Salvage Crew on To Riverdance

Photographs  Dave Worth 2008

Dave Worth went to Cleveleys on the afternoon of February 05, 2008 to photograph progress in the attempt to salvage RIVERDANCE.

Dave writes: "There is an exclusion zone in place but visitors can at present still walk out to get views of the bow and stern quite close by. You can't walk past the ship lengthways and there are security people dotted around and ask you to move back if you step over the imaginary line into the exclusion zone. The coastguard is kept busy  warning people over their PA and driving across the beach to tell people to get back. One man carried on walking across no-man's land and the coastguard drove over and waved a sheet of paper at him. The coastguard people are very pleasant but I heard one of them talking to a member of the public about the photo in the Daily Mail and that is when things have started to tighten up .

I also heard that they were starting the pumping on Friday (February 08, 2008), otherwise the next chance would be the 20th.The crane started to make its way across the beach mid afternoon. When next to the ship a carrying basket was attached to the jib and two men were lifted up and hovered over the deck before being lowered onto the deck."
