MSC OPERA (59,0568grt) seen at the City Cruise Terminal, Southampton on Friday August 03. Owned by the Switzerland based Mediterranean Shipping Company MSC OPERA was launched by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in 2004 and named by actress Sophia Loren. MSC OPERA is sister ship to MSC LIRICA. She has a top speed of 20.8 knots, carries up to 2,199 passengers.

MSC OPERA was preparing to depart for an eight night European Discovery cruise to Ijmuiden, August 04; St. Peter Port,  August 05; La Coruna, August 07; Bilbao, August 08; La Rochelle, August 09 returning to Southampton on Saturday August 11, 2012. These photographs were taken from MS BALMORAL which was berthed at the Fruit Terminal, astern of the MSC OPERA. Unfortunately lifeboat drill on the BALMORAL resulted in the departure of MSC OPERA going unrecorded!
