Photographs  John H. Luxton 2012

With strong westerly winds preventing pilot transfers at the Mersey Bar crude oil tanker SALLIE KNUTSEN (87,827grt / 1999) dropped her Mersey pilot in Douglas Bay on the afternoon of September 29, 2012. The pilot being taken off by Laxey Towing Company's pilot vessel GIRL MARY and brought to Douglas, from where a return to Liverpool was effected on the afternoon sailing of MANANNAN. S

ALLIE KNUTSEN was bound for the Gullfaks Oil Field in the North Sea. SALLIE KNUTSEN is on the Isle of Man Shipping Registry and is registered in Douglas, given her size this is about as close as she will get to her "home" port. By the way can anyone see the plastic owl?
