Manannan Turnaround - Closely Watched at Liverpool

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2012

Many are familiar with watching MANANNAN turn around at Liverpool Pier Head, but as yet a full photo record of a turn around has not been published. However, a cruise ship berthed at the Liverpool Cruise Terminal provides an excellent grandstand view of the turnaround process. Whilst BALMORAL was berthed at Liverpool on April 05, the morning arrival from Douglas was photographed.

Later the same day the evening arrival and departure were photographed. First of all we will look at the morning arrival.

The scenes below show the afternoon arrival. Both afternoon arrival and departure appeared to attract the interest of the police who turned up in their unmarked van - which could be seen parked up near the vehicle check in. One often wonders what they are up to when one sees them "eye balling" passengers. The only people they spoke to were a couple who disembarked last. Another officer appeared to scrutinise the boarding cars.

The scenes below show the departure with the baggage train being brought aboard and MANANNAN letting go and swinging in the river.
