Kingswear Castle - Paddling on the Dart

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2014

PS KINGSWEAR CASTLE operating her second season of cruises on the River Dart under charter to the Dart Valley Railway plc. She is seen here at and around Dartmouth Harbour and Estuary on Tuesday May 27, 2014.

This was your web master's third trip on Britain's only coal fired paddle steamer. On the previous trips wind caused a bit of a chop in the outer harbour and the cruise turned before Dartmouth Castle but continued up river to off Dittisham. On this occasion the weather was kind and KINGSWEAR CASTLE  proceeded out to sea into Start Bay before turning and heading back into the harbour.

The rather unusual toilet in the rear saloon, yet it really is on a platform up steps from the cabin floor!
Sailing back into the harbour from Start Bay.
Passing Dartmouth Castle.
Berthing at Dartmouth Station Landing Stage.
A selection of views of PS KINGSWEAR CASTLE at Dartmouth taken from the Lower Ferry a healthy queue for the 14:00 harbour cruise can be seen assembling on the stage.
