Norma in Close Up - Working at Canning River Entrance

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2014

Royal Boskalis Westminster Plough Dredger NORMA is a familiar sight on the Mersey often seen busy at work keeping the various river entrances clear of silt. On Saturday March 01, 2014 she was busy at work dredging Canning River Entrance at high water. The bridge across the entrance providing a good vantage point and attracting a good audience of passers-by heading to and from the Pier Head from the Albert Dock complex.

Obviously at least one family had some difficulty understanding what work NORMA was undertaking. A small boy was overhead asking his father "What is it doing?" "Oh just showing off" said his father as the engines revved and NORMA pulled her plough out into the Mersey again.

You can also watch a video of NORMA at work in the right hand frame.
