Photographs  John H. Luxton 2013

HMS GLEANER [H86] is the smallest commissioned vessel in the Royal Navy, she is seen here at rest in Milford Haven Docks. HMS GLEANER is a hydrographic survey vessel built in 1983 and is  believed to be the only Royal Naval vessel to have ever visited Switzerland according to the vessel's web page .

Between 1800 and 1814 Milford Haven port functioned a Royal Naval Dockyard until transferred across the Milford Haven waterway to a new dock yard at Milford Haven which operated until 1926, before being transferred to the Royal Air Force to become a Flying Boat base operational until the late 1950s. Milford Haven was strategically important in WWII and hosted 1,000 US Military in preparation for the Normandy Landings and was home to RNAD Milford Haven which operated from the 1930s until the end of the Cold War.
