HMS Echo Visits Liverpool

These photographs were taken during the World Ship Society Merseyside Branch's visit to HMS Echo on Saturday January 21, 2006.

HMS ECHO H87 was built at Appledore Shipyard under a subcontract from Vosper Thornycroft and launched in 2002. She has been supplied by VT under a 25 year design and maintain contract and is leased to the Royal Navy. She is the first Royal Navy ship to be fitted with a diesel-electric "Azipod" propulsion system.

As well as functioning in its primary role as a Survey Vessel Hydrographic Oceanographic, the ship and her sister HMS ENTERPRISE has a secondary role as a mine countermeasures flagship. Accompanying her on her visit to Liverpool were Sandown Class mine hunters HMS RAMSEY, HMS GRIMSBY and HMS BLYTH.
