HMS Bristol - The Unique Type 82 Destroyer at Portsmouth

The unique HMS BRISTOL [D23] was the only type 82 destroyer built for the Royal Navy. She was to have been one of four escort ships for the abandoned 1960s CVA-01 aircraft carrier project. The ship had a dual steam and gas turbine propulsion system.

HMS BRISTOL saw service in the Falklands War finally being decommissioned in 1991. She has served at as static training ship at Whale Island, Portsmouth since 1993. She was refitted at A&P Tyne over the winter of 2010 / 11.
