PELICAN & RONA II The Foredeck Dining Saloon Enough sail for 6 knots Leaving Douglas
PELICAN a "Mainmast Barquentine" was builtin Le Havre in 1946. She was originally a beam trawler, working in the Arctic. In 1968, she became a coaster, and was named KADETT. In 1965, she was acquired by her current Norwegian owners and was taken to Portland to begin her reconstruction. The reconstruction to square rigger was completed in Penzance in 2007, and since then she has been cruising both with paying passengers and as a sail training vessel.  Under diesel power, she can achieve 7 knots, but under sail, she has managed in excess of 10 knots, and it is suspected she may be able to go even faster than that given ideal conditions. Her master for the current trip is David Bainbridge, who was an officer with the IOM Steam Packet over 30 years ago. Website: http://www.adventureundersail.com/theship.htm
