Tall Ships Challenger 1 and 3 Arrive at Canning Half Tide Dock

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2012

A reflection on the recent downsizing of vessels operated by the Tall Ships Youth Trust (formerly the Sail Training Association). A fleet of four Challenger yachts, built originally for the BT Global Challenge Race entered service to replace 2000 built tall ship - the brig PRINCE WILLIAM which was sold to the Pakistan Navy to become RAH NAWARD.

On Saturday April 21 Tall Ships Challenger 1 - OONA and Tall Ships Challenger 3 - SARAH arrived on the Mersey and after stemming the tide for a while entered Canning Half Tide Dock on the morning tide.

The TSYT remaining tall ship STAVROS S. NIARCHOS is currently up for sale, though she is due to visit Liverpool at the end of April 2012.
