Princess Royal / Habicht II Moved

Photographs  Dave Crolley 2014

PRINCESS ROYAL [ex-HABICHT II] has been a long time resident of the Liverpool Dock system. Arriving in the summer of 1994 the former German passenger ship has lain at Sandon Half Tide Dock, Huskisson #3, Sandon again and then probably for the past five or six years in Canada Dock. She also underwent some repair work in Clarence Graving Docks before that facility closed around 9 to 10 years ago. The ship was brought to Liverpool by a company known as Bridgewater Investments who planned to use her as a floating nightclub and to operate coastal cruises to North Wales

On Friday February 14, 2014 PRINCESS ROYAL was photographed by Dave Crolley lying across the gates to Canada Graving Dock. Dave speculates that she could have been moved to protect the graving dock gates from the prevailing gales. Canada Graving Dock has seen little use in the past decade or so apart from a brief spell as a ship breaking facility operated by Leavesley International a few years ago.
