Tug and Tow: Forth Fighter leads a Cavalcade

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2013

An interesting cavalcade arrived in the Mersey approach channels in the late morning of August 16. Briggs Marine tug FORTH FIGHTER was towing construction barge SKERCH, followed by Delta Marine's WHALSA LASS and Holyhead Towing Company's AFON GOCH. The first set of photographs were captured from MANANNAN on her 11:15 sailing to Douglas. MANANNAN reducing speed to allow the unusual procession to pass by. The procession was captured later by Peter Challis from New Brighton where a film crew were working on the beach and provided some non shipping foreground interest. The construction barge is believed to be involved in work on the new Liverpool 2 Container Terminal at Seaforth.
