Ciudad De Cadiz Aground at Mostyn

Photographs  John Thomas Eddie Doig and Peter Challis 2013

Ro/Ro cargo ship CIUDAD DE CADIZ (15,643 grt / 2009) operated by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs of France ran aground on a sand bank off the port port of Mostyn from where she had been scheduled to convey airbus wings constructed at the BAe factory at Broughton. was blown off her berth and onto a sand bank during gales on Wednesday January 30, 2013. Despite attempts to pull her off she remained stuck fast on Saturday February 02, 2013.

CIUDAD DE CADIZ was successfully refloated on the morning tide of February 09, 2013. Appearing non the worse for her grounding she proceeded to Holyhead for a hull survey by divers.

The above shots were taken on February 08, 2013. John Thomas writes. The wing about to be loaded is in one of the shots -VILLE DE BORDEAUX was brought in to take the load CIUDAD DE CADIZ should have taken. Lurking in the distance is tug UNION DIAMOND which I assume has been brought in to relieve KINGDOM OF FIFE which is now heading back to Greenock.
On Saturday February 02, CIUDAD DE CADIZ remained stuck fast with the next attempt to free her scheduled for Saturday February 09, 2013. Meanwhile SEATRUCK PACE was resting on the linkspan berth when photographed by John Thomas.
KINGDOM OF FIFE and SMITH DONAU assisted in attempts to refloat high water on Friday February 01, 2013.

Thursday January 31 with WHALSA LASS in attendance.
