Falklands Veteran HMS Plymouth Continues to Await Her Fate

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2013

It was back in March 2012 that news spread that the Rothsay Class Type 12 frigate HMS PLYMOUTH [F126] had been sold to Turkish ship breakers. However, in October 2013 she still remained in Vittoria Dock, Birkenhead which she had been laid up since the Warship Preservation Trust went into liquidation in early 2006. Ownership of the vessel then having passing into the ownership of Peel Holdings. Several attempts to find a new home for the vessel at Hayle, Plymouth and Falmouth having failed.

Claims that the ship has been sold to an un-named breakers is disputed by the HMS Plymouth Trust which is still attempting to save the rapidly decaying vessel. Their website can be accessed at

In reality it remains unclear as to what is happening with the vessel.  These photographs were taken from Mersey Ferries' MV SNOWDROP operating the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society's "Birkenhead Docker" charter cruise on October 26, 2013.
