HMS Onyx - Barrow Here I Come!

Photographs © Dave Billinge, Ian Collard and Philip Parker 2006

HMS ONYX - once part of the Historic Warship's Collection at Birkenhead which closed in Ferbruary 2006 is towed away by Adsteam Tugs bound for Barrow-In-Furness on June 13, 2006. The Cammell Laird built submarine has been bought by a Barrow businessman for £100,000 and will be a principal exhibit at a new submarine heritage centre. What is Merseyside's loss is Barrow's gain. Sadly various local government and other organisations on Merseyside only made token gestures to retain the Historic Warships Collection, if there had been a real determination something could have been done.
