The Duke of Lancaster Revisited August 22, 2012

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2012

It is almost six years since the former British Railways turbine steamer DUKE OF LANCASTER appeared on Irish Sea Shipping. Since she was photographed in December 2006 her condition has deteriorated considerably, with more corrosion evident on the hull and superstructure, and a number of large windows on the starboard side appear to be broken. The ship appears to have attracted graffiti artists despite there being a security presence again - note the hut and a security guard sat on top of the steps. However, this graffiti may well have been applied with the owner's consent as there is a supporting web site www.dudug.co.uk.

The "history" tag is worth reading as it makes some crazy claims about the Duke!  However, the DUKE really is presenting a very sad picture, is she now to be reduced to the ignominy of a graffiti artists wall?
