Liverpool's Harland & Wolff Works Awaits Its Fate

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2013

It was revealed in February 2013 that the former Liverpool works of Harland and Wolff located on Regent Road, Bootle were to be demolished after the granting of permission by Sefton Council. Harland and Wolff closed the Liverpool base in the 1960s along with its  marine workshop and foundry in Strand Street around half a mile away.

In recent years the former H&W site, near Canada #3 Branch Dock has been used by ABAC Logistics, with part of the building, the former senior management dining room,  being leased as to a third party as the White Star Café. The former café leaseholder, when  interviewed in the local press, stated that the great grandson of J. Bruce Ismay had been a customer. The photographs below were taken on February 22, 2013. The demolition company having already a fixed their banners to the front of the building.
