The Destruction of the Cammell Laird Engine Shop

Photographs  Ian Collard 2006

During first week of July 2006 demolition of the former Cammell Laird Engine Shop commenced.

Photographs show the progress of demolition on July 07, 2006.

This "Engine Shop" has been a landmark on Merseyside since the 1930s and also acted as acted as a advertisement for the yard which, until the yard's failure following the cancellation of the COSTA CLASSICA contract once proclaimed proudly proclaimed 'CAMMELL LAIRD SHIP BUILDERS ENGINEERS REPAIRERS'. Following the yard's sale to A&P Group the legend was changed to 'A&P BIRKENHEAD PREMIER SHIP REPAIR'. Then with the departure of A&P following the sale of the site to developers Reddington Finance it was amended to read 'BIRKENHEAD SHIP REPAIR'

Once demolition of this building is completed the Cammell Laird south site, with the exception of the 1970s construction hall will have been completely cleared.
