HMS Liverpool Bell Ceremony

Photographs  Peter Challis 2014 (thanks to John Williams Mersey WSS for some addition information)

The rededication of the bell of type 42 destroyer HMS LIVERPOOL on Friday June 13 was one of the events which marked the 2014 Mersey River Festival. A parade from visiting destroyer HMS DAUNTLESS to the parish church of Our Lady and St. Nicholas, where the bell will go in permanent display, was lead by a Royal Marines Band.

The HMS LIVERPOOL bell was carried from four Cammell Laird apprentices responsible for restoring the bell. Also present were Vice-Admiral Philip Jones and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool along with former sailors from HMS LIVERPOOL including some which are now serving on HMS DAUNTLESS.

The elderly gentlemen wearing the white berets are Arctic Convoy veterans.

In the picture above we can see on the left Commodore Richard Baum, Naval Regional Commander North of England

The officer on the right of the picture is Captain. Ian McNaught, Deputy Master of Trinity House (& the last master of the QE2), there representing Trinity House as GALATEA was berthed on the Cruise Terminal. (After Princess Anne, who is Master, he's the senior officer of Trinity House.
