Photographer Peter Challis writes: Coral the Bookmakers had arranged for around 20 jet-skiers to take to the river as horses and jockeys. They assembled at New Brighton early this morning and around 09:00 and began their 'race' down the riverThere were many press photographers at Seacombe and I'm informed New Brighton to record the event. I don't think the organisers did too good a job as they were all shooting directly into the morning sunshine! A woman with a radio organised to craft to make repeated passes of the Three Graces. I don't think they even informed Mersey VTS the event was to take place, it appeared to catch them unawares and the ferry crew informed me they hadn't been informed and impeded the commuter traffic!
