Ships at the Fowey Clay Wharves - September, 05  1982

Photographs  John H. Luxton 1982

This selection of photographs were taken on September 05, 1982 from a self-drive motor boat hired by your web master from Fowey. This enabled one to sail up the river Fowey and take photographs of ships at the china clay wharves. With hindsight your web master now wishes that more photographs had been taken - but back then in pre digital days every shot cost money typically 9p a shot on a processed paid slide film such as the Agfa's CT21 being used that day! Photographed with Contax 139 SLR camera and 50mm Carl Zeiss f1.7 Planar lens.

Ships appearing in these shots include ARKOW ABBEY, CASTOR (Finland) and HOHEBANK (Germany).

ARKLOW ABBEY was ordered by James Tyrell Ltd from Scheepswerf G. Bijlsma and Zonen BV in 1981 and launched in 1982. She would have been virtually new when photographed at Fowey. She was sold by Tyrell/Arklow to Fern Shipping of Dublin in 1996 and renamed EASTFERN. In 1998 was sold to MidEast Marine and renamed FERN. Later sold to Devo Shipping of Panama and last recorded as CARMEN CECILIA operating for unrecorded Venezulan operators in the mid 2000s.
