I would like to thank Tony Brennan for confirming details of the exact location this photograph was taken. The location is on the south side of the River Liffey - the Gasometer being located at the corner of Sir John Rogerson's Quay and Cardiff Lane. This was constructed in 1934 and dismantled in 1993-4. John Clarke confirms that the ship is the Commissioners of Irish Lights tender ALEXANDRA berthed on the Liffey. He remembers her from visits to Belfast when servicing the Blackhead and Mew Island Lights. John also points out the radio direction finding loop aerial, which as with the side cabs, would have been a later fitting. |
